RPG Gamers summary

Final Fantasy VIII is the eighth installment in Square's iconic Final Fantasy series, originally released in 1999. The game follows Squall Leonhart, a young SeeD cadet from Balamb Garden military academy, as he is drawn into a global conflict against the sorceress Edea and ultimately the time-traveling sorceress Ultimecia. Joined by fellow SeeDs Zell, Selphie, Quistis, and Irvine, plus the resistance fighter Rinoa Heartilly, Squall must master the unique Junction system — drawing magic from enemies and binding it to character stats — and harness the power of Guardian Forces (GFs) to defeat his foes. The game broke from Final Fantasy tradition with a more realistic art style, mature romantic storyline, and a card mini-game called Triple Triad. It originally shipped on PlayStation in 1999 and has since been remastered for modern platforms.
