Game Details

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the GameCube. An installment in The Legend of Zelda series, it was released in Japan on December 13, 2002, in North America on March 23, 2003, and in Europe on May 2, 2003.

Set in a flooded Hyrule called the Great Sea, the game follows Link as he sails between scattered islands aboard the talking King of Red Lions, searching for his kidnapped sister Aryll and gathering the legendary Triforce. Wind Waker is famous for its distinctive cel-shaded “toon” art style, which initially divided fans but is now widely celebrated.

The game features sailing as a core mechanic — players use the titular Wind Waker baton to control wind direction across the sea. Wind Waker was directed by Eiji Aonuma and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, and was later remastered in HD for the Wii U in 2013.
