BattleCakes is now available for the PC through Steam though it may not be what players are expecting. A full release was planned but it seems that developer Volcano Bean had other plans. Instead, it's available as an early access game.
It was back in July when the studio revealed plans for a full release. What changed? The studio shared in a post that the game was developed by a small year for a few years now. However, they've realized since the July announcement that launching the full game as scheduled would mean forcing the team to go "into an unhealthy crunch cycle" while also risking offering a gameplay experience that didn't have the quality they wanted.
For now, the plan is to have the game in early access for around three months. Players can expect the first bi-weekly content update to come out by November 9 though that date is still no final. In early access, the studio revealed that about a third of the game is going to be playable. That means players get to access the first two major towns along with its dungeons and surrounding dungeons. They can also get access to some of the player actions, items, crafting recipes, and toppers. Of course, all of this are set to be expanded during continuous development of the game.
In terms of price, the early access version is available for $14.99. The full release though is planned to be $19.99 mainly due to the additional content that's going to be added.
The game invites players to a deliciously delightful world of sweetness where they get to go on an adventure and save the day. They get to take on the role of one Birthday Sprinkle, a cupcake hero that they personalize and create. As they explore the whimsical world of Pasteleria, players get to meet some charming and endearing friends along the way. They then work together to learn more about the mysteries and hardships faced by the towns. Ultimately, players get to choose whether they want to befriend or battle the monsters that stand in their way.
