Thibaut Billerot announced that they're working on a free demo for Mandated Fate. It’s going to be available on Steam. It's going to be available during the Steam Next Fest this October.
In a post, the studio revealed that they'll be creating a dedicated story for the demo. That story has been written though the development team has found it too time-consuming to integrate everything. As a result, the demo is going to be a condensed version of the beginning of the main story. The development team assures everyone that the beginning won't feel like a tutorial.
This story is planned to be integrated at a later date.
Narrative Design
When it comes to the narrative design, it's all about being loyal to the Empire. Players can encounter different situations whose outcome depends on their loyalty score and mission success or failure. Early in the game, there's going to be what appears as insignificant choices but can later prove crucial.
Each situation features a complete gameplay loop and seamlessly integrated into the story. Things to remember include:
- Social Posturing: Manage status through dialogue and behavior.
- The Pivot: Choose to conform or risk a Subversive Action.
- The Mission: Investigate, hack, or act based on the choice.
- Systemic Resolution: Accept the consequences. Success or failure depends on how players navigated the previous steps.
That said, it's all high risk and high reward. While subversion often yields deeper secrets and better rewards, it's important to remember that the Empire is always watching.
