The Mirage expansion for Path of Exile is finally here. This one has players take on a rogue sect of the Faridun as they sap the energies of captured Djinn for nefarious ends. They'll also need to help a legendary Maraketh Sekhema put an end to an ancient war once and for all.
The highlight of the expansion is the introduction of the new Challenge League. You see, the Afarud, considered as the most depraved and twisted of the Faridun, have managed to form a pact with Saresh, a powerful necromancer who built an army of undead to seek revenge on the Maraketh. They're hoping to not only obtain and harness the power of the Djinn but also twist it to their ends to further their war on the Maraketh. The good news is that Varashta, a powerful Sekhema who has been suspended in time for eons, has arrived to help players as they try to stop Afarud's efforts in Wraeclast.
For the Mirage Challenge League, players encounter the souls of Djinn torturously trapped by the Afarud. They'll have to work and set them free. Players have to enter the Mirage they project, which is an imperfect copy of the area around the captured Djinn. Then they'llhave to fight their way through the monsters, astral hazards, and Afarud mages to the tether holding the Djinn. Those who manage to free the Djinn receive rewards.
Make a Wish
Still on the theme of the expansion, as a Djinn, Varashta can offer players a further mote of ancient Maraketh power. This gives them access to three wishes they can choose from. Each of these is a powerful modifier that augments the Mirage as they enter. The magic of the Mirage augments any other league mechanic that appears within its dominion. Warped into existence by the Astral realm, these encounters behave differently, and can sometimes provide strange and powerful rewards.
