A Physical Edition of Darkest Dungeon II is Coming Out this October

Skybound Games announced that it has partnered with developer Red Hook Studios for te release of a physical edition for Darkest Dungeon II. The only catch is that it's only going to be available for the console versions. That means the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or the Nintendo Switch. It's going to be available on October 22 with pre-orders now open.

The physical edition is available for $39.99 and is a game cartridge for the Switch and disc for the PlayStation and Xbox versions. This same edition also comes with an intricate build-your-own stagecoach model along with a redemption code for the Darkest Dungeon II soundtrack.

Talking about this upcoming release, Red Hook Studios Co-Founder and Design Director Tyler Sigman shared in a statement that they're excited for the release of a physical edition. He revealed that while the market continues to be dominated by digital downloads, physical media continues to be important especially when it comes to "preserving gaming culture." He went on to say that it's also a good way to offer fans worldwide a "tangible way to connect" with the different gaming worlds that they love.

Darkest Dungeon II offers a layered and in-depth combat system that was present in the first game. One main difference is that the stats and rules have been overhauled to allow for wider strategic potential. There’s also a new Token System introduced which results in player decisions being more consequential while also adding further complexity to combat scenarios.

The game also brings back the signature mix of memorable heroes, each one having their own tragic backstories for players to discover. Heroes can unlock their full potential through a range of new skills, progress paths, and items that can provide an edge in battle.

Each expedition in the game meanwhile varies in length, from 30 minutes to several hours. However, even when a journey is cut short yields there are still rewards that provide players with resources that can help in upcoming expeditions. The game’s massive upgrade system offers new strategies for every venture and let players to cater their attack plans in line with their goals.

In addition to consoles, Darkest Dungeon II is also available for the PC via Steam.
