Indie developer AttritoM7 Productions announced that BLACKWOOD: Act 1 is now available on Steam. This marks the beginning of a dark and cinematic single-player story that's set in 2012 New York.
BLACKWOOD follows Anton, whose seemingly mundane day job offers what can be described as a stark contrast to the violent world he inhabits after dark. The game combines cinematic storytelling with grounded combat, brutal takedowns, and responsive gunplay. It puts players in control of a character living a dangerous double life, where each encounter can demand careful preparation, and every bullet counts.
Act 1 delivers at least six hours of gameplay and combines four main story missions with multiple side missions and additional content. Players who spend more time with the store management and sim elements of BLACKWOOD can expect a longer experience than the prescribed 6 hours. BLACKWOOD is a focused, linear single-player experience rather than an open-world game. It's also story driven made possible by carefully designed encounters, cinematic presentation, and a growing sense of danger.
Three Acts
Act 1 is priced at $24.99 and the price increases as the game expands. Act 2, which comes out March 2027, is available for $29.99. Then Act 3, releasing in September 2027, is planned to be $34.99.
In addition, the planned structure is:
- Act 1: 4 main missions, plus side missions and additional content
- Act 2: 4 main missions, plus side missions and additional content
- Act 3: 5 main missions, plus side missions and additional content
The mission counts refer to the main story missions only. Each act contains additional content beyond the main storyline. Act 3 in particular features an additional main mission to accommodate an alternate ending.
BLACKWOOD offers tight and close quarters combat then combines it with slow-burn storytelling. From the basement of a quiet Brooklyn DVD store to the neon-lit streets of 2012 New York’s underworld, each encounter is choreographed and every fight feels cinematic. That said, every choice comes with consequences. The quiet moments with the woman in the store remind Anton that even in a world of darkness, glimpses of his humanity endure.
