Arcanaut is Working on “Spiritual Successor” to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Arcanaut Studios announced that it is collaborating with Lucasfilm Games to develop is a narrative-driven single-player action RPG that’s set in the Star Wars universe. It’s titled as Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic and has players take on the role of a Force user who goes on a journey across a galaxy that’s on the edge of rebirth.

This announcement was made during The Game Awards 2025. In addition to the announcement, a teaser trailer has also been released which fans can watch here.

The team developing the game is being led by Casey Hudson. The studio sees the project as one where veteran storytellers and developers unite to create what can be described as the “spiritual successor” to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The upcoming title is one that features innovative storytelling and combined with with memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic invites players to an unforgettable experience where each decision deepens the journey toward light or darkness.

In a statement, Arcanaut Studios Game Director Casey Hudson shared that when they were working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, it was a defining experience of his career. With this upcoming title, Hudson shared that they wanted to tell a new and different story with what they’ve learned. He went on to say that it’s a game that offers an adventure that’s about choice, destiny, and the timeless struggle between light and dark.

Meanwhile, Douglas Reilly, who is VP and GM of Lucasfilm Games, shared that the era of The Old Republic was a rich and beloved part of the Star Wars galaxy. He went on to saythat they’re excited to be working on a fresh story never seen before. Reilly said that fans are sure to be delighted with the journey that awaits them.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is in early development and to be released for PC and consoles.
