Turning Wheel announced that Part 1 of the Instruments of Destruction is now available in Barony. There are a lot of new additions and overhauls to the game that result in the adventure being more dynamic and more interesting. New playstyles are being offered while at the same time improve the viability of some existing ways to play.
The largest change arriving with the update is the massive overhaul to the magic system of the game. In particular, it introduces three primary schools of magic.
Sorcery
Sorcery is the school that's sure to be most familiar especially when it comes to the classic wizard archetype. It features very direct effects. Those who are disciplined in this skill are sure to have an easy time learning attack spell. This is in addition to the straightforward but powerful defensive and utility magic. For the followers of this school, the obsession is all about manipulation of material forces and writing exceptions to natural law. Sorcery spells become more powerful based greatly on the INT stat of the caster.
Thaumaturgy
Thaumaturgy is typically practiced by devout adventurers and best known for the restorative effects that's unavailable to other schools. Because of the enhancements it allows to the self and followers, it makes for practical adventuring. This is in addition to spells that reveal hidden knowledge. The thing is, not all the spells are so benign since some are highly effective at pouring out righteous wrath upon evil spirits. Thaumaturgy spells are more powerful based on the INT + CON stats of the caster.
Mysticism
Mysticism is all about controlling the mind, body, and spirit of a target. It's all important to know that manipulating the mind and corrupting the flesh from inside and out are highly useful against enemies. Mystics can also do more since they can beseech spirits that lie inside of all things and allow them to change them physically, sometimes with transformative results. While often less direct than other schools, the practice is no less powerful. Mysticism spells are more powerful based on the INT + CHR stats of the caster.
