Behind-the-Scenes Video for GreedFall: The Dying World Released

Spiders Studio released a behind-the-scenes video for GreedFall: The Dying World. It shows the development of the game's narrative and features Neil Newbon, who voices the main antagonist.

The main antagonist of GreedFall: The Dying World is Kurnaz, who can be a very cold and charismatic man. He is highly intelligent and knows exactly how to manipulate others to get what he wants. While Kurnaz hails from a modest background, he suffers from a certain Napoleonic complex and has led him to believe that he is superior to others. He does have this unwavering determination which results in him being able to crush anyone who stands in his way.

As mentioned, voicing Kurnaz is Neil Newbon. For those not familiar, Newbon plays the role of Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3. Talking about his interpretation of Kurnaz, Newbon shared that he worked extensively with Damien Goodwin, who served as the Performance Director on set. Newbon and Goodwin made the decision to give Kurnaz a sophisticated accent, however it was one that could betray his origins at times. It's also revealed that none other than Jason Isaacs served as the reference for the voice of Kurnaz. In a statement, Newbon explained that while the character serves as the game's main antagonist, he didn't want to "portray him as a caricatured villain."

Supporting Role

Fans would be surprised to know that Newbon actually voices another character in the game. Ingo is a character who is actually diametrically opposed to Kurnaz. This secondary character is best described to be like the archetype of Falstaff in Shakespeare's plays. He’s a bit cowardly and opportunistic but full of humor.

For Newbon, being able to take several roles within the same production is an enjoyable one. As a result, it lets him get that fresher perspective on his roles while being able to try more original things, especially with the secondary character.

For this role, Newbon shared that the references for the voice were a combination of Peter Ustinov, Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart. He had a lot of fun with the character and wonders if players can recognize him when they encounter Ingo.

GreedFall: The Dying World is currently in Early Access on Steam with the final version to be released on March 10. Versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and set to come out on March 12.
