Game Science once again added another feather to its cap as Black Myth: Wukong was named as Game of the Year at The Steam Awards 2024. However, that's not the only award the game took home as it was also honored with Best Game You Suck at Award and Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award.
Released just this August 2024, Black Myth: Wukong was able to sell 20 million units in the first month alone. It has obtained favorable reviews from critics. It has been named as Game of the Year by various bodies with the exception of The Game Awards where that honor went to Astro Bot.
This action role-playing game was developed and published by Game Science. It’s inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West and follows an anthropomorphic monkey who is based on Sun Wukong from the novel. The game is played in single-player mode from a third-person perspective. The player controls the Destined One, a monkey protagonist based on Sun Wukong from the Journey to the West.

In addition to the main award, as mentioned, the game was also nominated and got the nod in two other awards. There's Best Game You Suck at Award which is all about being a tough game that fans continue to love. Meanwhile, the Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award focuses on narrative-heavy games.

The Steam Awards is held annually and organized by Valve. Introduced in 2016, the game nomination and voting periods are concurrent with Steam's annual autumn and winter holiday sales. The Steam Awards happen in two phases. In the first phase, Valve chooses a number of categories and allows any registered Steam user to select one game available on Steam for that category. Valve then subsequently reviews the nominations and then selects the top five games for final voting. These nominations are then presented to Steam users and let them vote in each category. Following this, Valve announces the winner.
