Captain Battle Update is Now Live in Seablip

This latest update introduces an exciting new mechanic to the game.

The much-awaited Captain Battle Update for Seablip is now available. This is the biggest expansion since the game became available on Steam Early Access back in 2024. It introduces a new combat system known as Captain Duel.

The Captain Duel system features a questline that challenges players to defeat 10 mysterious Galleon Guard bosses. They can fight against rival captains with the use of 17 unique swords, each one having its own special attack ability. Then there are the crew members who throw health, armor, spell books, and other useful items, in the hopes of turning the tide of battle. Be careful though since enemy captains can also grab items mid-battle and thus create those chaotic and unpredictable showdowns.

Captain Duels though isn't limited to the new questline. Rather than typical ship fights, enemies encountered during normal ship battles can now challenge players to Captain Duels. Making things exciting is that each enemy faction has their own unique tactics, abilities, and even ship layouts.

In a statement, Seablip solo developer Jardar Solli shared that Captain Duel "changes the game completely." With the addition of this new mechanic, Solli went on to say that he can now work on completing the main story of the game.

New Additions

The update also introduces what's known as Enemy Fleet battles. It challenges players taking down multiple enemy ships back-to-back without pause. For now the feature is in very early development so there may be some visual glitches. Two enemies are currently available but this is planned to be increased as the release of version 1.0 nears.

Another addition to the game are two new tracks. There's one for Captain Duels and the other for Castle battles.

Technical Change

One technical change implemented is that Seablip can now be played with a controller. According to Solli, there is the likelihood that there may be bugs. Should players encounter these, they should inform him so that a patch can be implemented. Solli also said that some of the keybindings have been changed with the key rebinding menu being reworked.

Seablip is a pixel-art pirate RPG that's set in a vibrant open world of explorable islands, naval battles, and survival-driven progression. Players start from humble beginnings and work their way to becoming a feared pirate captain. Get Seablip on Steam now.
