Cassel Games announced that a free demo for Ratocalypse is now available on Steam. This strategy RPG has players design the AI of their characters.
The demo in particular has players design the combat AI of their soldiers. They can build each of the Expedition Members’ combat tactics by deciding what skills are used under certain conditions. Players can watch these same Expedition Members fight based on the Tactics they've built. If needed, they can adjust those tactics on the spot. The demo also allows players to rebuild their Settlement and upgrade their Expedition Members' Skills, equipment, and abilities.
Overall, the demo has players access four regions, six Expedition Member classes, and about three to four hours of gameplay.
In a post, the studio shared that they release the demo ahead of the full launch to allow them to learn about the experiences of the players. The studio went on to say that there's a lot to learn and they'll' "keep improving it" even when the demo is now live.
Ratocalypse is a turn-based strategy game where players lead an expedition by designing the behavior AI of their rat soldiers. The combat then plays out automatically in turn-based rounds. Players get to watch their soldiers fight based on the strategies they built and then make adjustments on those tactics when needed.
When it comes to the AI design of the soldiers, there are at least 80 conditions for players to choose when each skill is used. In addition, they also get fine control when it comes to skill order and preferred movement position. Meanwhile over at the settlement, players can build and upgrade more than 10 facilities while recruiting and training their soldiers.
