Chinese Gamers Not Happy with Alleged Black Myth: Wukong Knock-off

Ever since Black Myth: Wukong was released back in August 2024, it has received some recognition from both fans and critics alike. Considering its success, it won't be a surprise to know that video game studios are going to copy it. As it turns out, that time has come as fans of the game in China are calling out an alleged knock-off.

In a report, it seems like these Chinese fans are riled up due to a game known as Wukong Sun: Black Legend. Developed and published by Global Game Studio, it's available on the Nintendo eShop. A quick search on the store shows that this isn't the first title to come from the studio though their games have been released only this year.

Going back to the comments from the fans, the topic seemed to have been in the topped discussion rankings a few days ago. One user said that knowing that Black Myth: Wukong has been copied has made them speechless. Another user meanwhile said that Nintendo should remove it considering that it is a pirated game.

2D vs 3D

While there are similarities to the title and maybe even the promotional posters, there is a high possibility that Global Game Studio may just have enough to argue that it is different from the critically-acclaimed game. For starters, screenshots of the gameplay for Wukong Sun: Black Legend shows that it's mainly 2D with players going from left to right.

As well all know, Black Myth: Wukong is a 3D action game wit

The Story

Now Black Myth: Wukong is based on the novel titled "Journey to the West." It is, by far, one of the most famous novels to come out of China and continues to remain a cornerstone for mythology and popular culture. The reason for the term "Black Myth" is that the game tells a story that wasn't part of the original novel.

Meanwhile, the description of Wukong Sun: Black Legend in the Nintendo eShop doesn't really add much except that players are invited to experience their own Journey to the West as they take on the role of none other than Wukong.

That said, we’ll see in the coming days what Nintendo plans to do with Wukong Sun: Black Legend. For now, you can enjoy Black Myth: Wukong for the PC via Steam.
