Crusader Kings III celebrated its fifth birthday yesterday. That means five years of dynasty building, family squabbles, holy pilgrimages and of course, the occasional murder. To mark the event, Paradox Interactive released an infographic that showed some keys statistics and information about the game.
Crusader Kings III was released on September 1, 2020 for the PC. Then in 2022 it was made available for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. Since the original launch, the game has been purchased by more than four million people across the different platforms. The game has also been expanded with over two dozen add-ons. Currently, the development team is working on its upcoming expansion "All Under Heaven." Once it goes live, the expansion is set to double the size of the map while also adding new Asian themed content.
In a post, Game Director Alexander Oltner shared that the game was launched at the height of the pandemic. It meant that the last stages of development brought with it an extra layer of pressure especially on the team. It's been five years and for Oltner, the success of the game is truly a "testimony to both the hard work of my colleagues and the passion of the community at large."
New Event Pack
While waiting for the upcoming expansion, players can look forward to a new event pack. Dubbed as "Coronations," this event pack introduces players to a new in-game Activity. Details include:
- Legitimize rule through grand coronations that impresses vassals and neighboring rulers.
- Maneuver around faction members and detractors to hopefully forge a magnificent coronation from dangerous circumstances.
- Bring together vassals for a grand ceremony to celebrate the new rule of the realm.
- Take an oath after the coronation and declare an objective for the rule.
- Access new decisions with unique rewards to suit every playstyle.
Coronations launches September 9 and available for $4.99.
Crusader Kings III has players take command of their house and expand their dynasty through the Middle Ages. They get to claim lands, titles, and vassals to secure a realm worthy of royal blood. There's also a sprawling simulated world that's filled with different characters that include peasants and knights, courtiers, spies, knaves and jesters, and even secret love affairs. Then there is the extensive cast of historical characters which players can romance, betray, execute, or subtly influence.
Each character in the game is truly larger than life having traits and lifestyle choices which then determine their actions as well as the schemes. Players thus have the option to rule with an iron fist to spread fear and dread or perform magnanimous deeds to inspire subjects.
