Magic Puncher Games announced that Sunken Realms is now available on Steam. The release comes after the game has been in development for six years.
Talking about the launch, developer Brad Warren revealed in a statement that it was Outward that inspired him to develop his very own game. While Sunken Realms eventually found its own path, he added that he "hope[s] it kept that same spirit. For those not familiar, Outward is an open world fantasy role-playing video that was released back in 2019. It focuses on survival with the player taking on the role of a commoner instead of a hero.
Seeking the Truth
Sunken Realms tells the story of how decades ago, the great underground city of Aedaria was cursed by the gods and fell into darkness. Legends say that it swallows anyone foolish enough to pass its gates. This has been almost forgotten by all but the adventurers still drawn by dreams of riches and the unknown. One of these adventurers is Alric, who is on a quest to learn the truth about what happened to his father.
Exploring the Lost City
Sunken Realms invites players to dive into a hand-crafted and procedurally-rearranged dungeon where they explore Aedaria's ruins, battle enemies, search for loot, and try to make it out alive. They can then return to camp on the surface to craft new weapons and armor, brew potions, prepare food, and upgrade their stats at the Soul Forge. Once they're ready, they can head back down and choose a higher difficulty for tougher fights and better loot.
