Dungeon Settlers is now officially live in early access on Steam. This colony sim based dungeon crawler has players manage an expedition to build a settlement in barren land.
Dungeon Settlers is a dark fantasy strategy game that features colony simulation and combines it with dungeon crawling. Players take on the role of a leader of an expedition sent by the Guild. Their mission is to explore, conquer, and destroy the dungeon that is said to be the source of all calamities. In order to succeed, players have to build a settlement in the barren land and prepare their people for the dangers ahead.
One way to describe the game is that it's a "Hardcore Strategy" title. Players have to train their members strategically by taking into account the traits, skills, and even equipment. They then form a party of up to four.
Settlement Management
The settlement is being built in a desolate land, one that's been isolated by magical erosion. Players can design rooms freely by placing walls and doors to meet the needs of their members. In addition to creating bedrooms and dining areas, players can also set up a forge with anvils and smelters. The key is to manage resources efficiently to survive while at the same time produce rations and camping supplies for the next expedition.
Character Development
Each member has six major abilities and talents. They also have dozens of combat and life-related stats. These same members also possess different traits based on race, background, and personality. Players need to recruit promising candidates and help them grow through leveling.
Combat System
Combat takes place in real time though players can pause at any moment to think strategically. Players can plan their tactics using a variety of effects and mechanics. They also have to position the party wisely, exploit enemy weaknesses, and utilize skills at the right time.
Dungeon Expedition
Each dungeon expedition is randomly composed. This means that the floors and rooms change each time. Meanwhile, regions apply different random environmental effects. The deeper players go, the rarer and more valuable the resources become though the same can be said for the danger.
Players can encounter the remnants of magical experiments like towering golems or acid-spitting monsters.
