EDEN95 is a game from developer snakeCase that offers what can be described as a unique experience. The game is planned to be released on Steam.
The game is set in 1995 and players take on the role of an individual who receives a message from a company called Eden Group. They've been asked to complete a video and the reward looks to be enough to save the life of their dying father. The company says that players were chosen because they've been recognized as the best in the world at what they do.
EDEN95 is played entirely across a simulated Windows 95 desktop environment. That means the menus, overlays, and pretty much all game views, are presented as windows on a retro desktop OS. At its core, the game is a top-down bullet hell where the mech of players cannot move on its own. Each shot fired pushes players in the opposite direction.
Key features of the game are:
- Recoil-based Movement: Guns serve as the engine and every shot propels players in the opposite direction, making movement and combat inseparable.
- Magazine Buildcrafting: Players serve as the architect of their magazine which lets them choose bullet types for each slot and apply modifiers that change the way they fire.
- Strategic Shooting: Bullets fire in sequence and each one has unique properties. Planning the loadout is as important as the aim.
- Roguelite Progression: Upgrade the mech mid-run to survive the immediate threat, then spend earnings on permanent upgrades between runs to go further next time.
- Quest-based Level Progression:— Each level comes with uniquely designed objectives that advance the mission and earn the next assignment from Eden Group.
With the game still being in development, not much has been revealed. However, the minimum system requirements are:
- OS: Windows 10
- Processor: Dual-core 2,0 GHz
- Memory: 2 GB RAM
- Graphics: Integrated graphics (DX10+)
- DirectX: Version 10
- Storage: 200 MB available space
EDEN95 is being developed by snakeCase, a two-person independent studio that’s based in Sweden. EDEN95 is their debut title and the studio plans to focus on building games that have strong mechanical identity and narrative depth. Wishlist EDEN95 on Steam now.
