The nominees for The Game Awards 2024 are already out and it's looking to be a good year for RPGs. That's because four of them are in the running for Game of the Year.

The first of these is Black Myth: Wukong. Released in August 2024, this game is inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West and follows an anthropomorphic monkey that's based on Sun Wukong from the novel. This title though is in the running for three other awards which are Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Action Game.

Nominated as well is Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. It's also nominated in three other categories which are Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Role Playing Game.

Another title that RPG players would want to root for is Metaphor: ReFantazio. The game invites players to a unique fantasy world where they get to journey alongside a fairy companion in an attempt to lift the curse from the kingdom’s lost prince. It got the nod for a total of six categories which include Game of the Year. The game has also been nominated for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, and Best Role Playing Game.

However, among the different RPGs nominated, it is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that has the most with seven nominations. Released in February of this year, it's the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake. In addition to Game of the Year, it's also up for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Performance, and Best Role Playing Game.

Of course, these aren't the only games nominated for the highest award. The others are Astro Bot, which has also been nominated in a total of seven categories. Finally, there's Balatro which is in the running in a total of five awards.
