Bandai Namco Entertainment America announced that Freedom Wars Remastered is launching for the PC via Steam. It's also going to be available on consoles PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch. The title is releasing on January 10, 2025.
The cult classic action game was first released way back in 2014 and made available for the PlayStation Vita. It became one of the most successful first-party PlayStation Vita titles to be released in Japan. It was also the second highest all-time opening sales for Vita software sold in Japan.
This upcoming remastered title introduces enhancements that include 4K resolution, upgraded textures, and 60fps. It also overhauls the weapon crafting system while also adding other game play upgrades. The game also introduces difficulty setting.
A Bleak Future
The game is set in a distant future where humanity is struggling to survive. Pollution has destroyed the planet and whatever remains of humanity are now divided in various city-sized prisons known as Panopticons. With resources being scarce, living itself has become a crime and those born are given a million years of prison time. These are known as "Sinners" and the only choice they have is to wait for death in prison or fight for freedom with allies. They can also rescue citizens abducted by rival enemies or even take up arms against other enemy Sinners.
The Thorn Weapons
For the upcoming title, the gameplay remains true to the widely acclaimed original which is where players need to fight in order to survive. The good news is that they can access Thorn weapons to help in their adventure and subdue enemies. Thorn allows players fluid three-dimensional movement by jumping and grabbing onto terrain.
Players can choose weapons having unique abilities to either set traps, provide healing, or even increase defense. Thorns can also subdue enemies and severe limbs or arms for additional resources. As players try to reduce their prison sentence, any materials scrounged or taken from fallen enemies on the battlefield can be used to upgrade weapons.
