Sole Survivor Games announced that it has released the first gameplay trailer for Space Scum. The game has players lead a band of mercenaries and fight their way across different planets. Along the way they get to earn loot and equipment.
This tactical and turn-based RPG is set across various procedurally generated planets. This ensures that no playthrough is the same. Players get to choose their own custom origin and encounter different environments, enemy types, factions and missions. It's a game where the choices are up to the players but it also means that they'll have to face the consequences.
Biggest and Baddest
Players won't enter the fight alone. However, to assemble the biggest and baddest Mercenary Company, they'll have to hire the biggest and the baddest available. As they engage in turn-based combat, players have to form a squad where each member has a different specialty.
Result of Success
For every successful mission, players can earn not only experience but also rewards and other spoils of war. These can then be used to buy new weapons and ship upgrades. They can be used as well to hire new talent. There are a number of specialists that offer different combat styles. These include sharpshooters with a deadly aim, hackers that can take on more complex defenses, or shield-bearing heavies which are able to tank damage.
A Unique Experience
In Space Scum, no two experiences tell the same story. That's because players have the ability to choose custom origins for the Mercenary Company. It also helps that the planets are procedurally generated and thus allow for unexpected surprises.
In a statement, Simon Reynolds of Sole Survivor Games revealed that the game is a “grueling experience” and it’s one where failure results in “grave consequences.” However, the feeling of accomplishment after completing the challenges is sure to be “second to none” for players.
Demo Out Soon
While there’s no release date announced, those excited to play the game should be happy to know that the first demo is arriving on Steam for PC this August. The game is also going to be playable at Indie Arena Booth as part of gamescom 2025 in Cologne, Germany.
