Hardcore Mode Now in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

It's time to experience a more immersive and brutal Bohemia as Hardcore Mode is now available in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. This is good news for those who want to test their skills against an even tougher slice of medieval life.

For starters, those who play this game mode have the position of their character no longer marked automatically on the map. That means they'll have to put their trust on the compass. Did we mention that fast travel is no longer an option?

As if that's not enough, players also have to choose at least three permanent negative perks before they start their playthrough. For example, they can choose the Heavy-Footed perk which increases the movement noise while also wearing out their shoe leather faster. Then there's Sweaty which increases the personal pungency as they explore the world. Numbskull meanwhile slows experience gains.

Talking about this new feature, Warhorse Studios senior game designer Karel Kolmann shared in a statement that while they were happy with how Hardcor Mode turned out in the first game, they wanted something that wasn't exactly the same. He added that for this version, it wasn't just about making the game harder but making it to be also "more immersive.:

An example of this is players needing to ask NPCs about their location in the world. However, there is no guarantee that they'll receive the help they need. After all, reputation plays a part in how the inhabitants of the world respond.

Hardcore Mode also makes changes to combat. While players already need to deal with the negative perks, they'll have to keep an eye out for enemies especially with AI settings adjusted. In the base game for instance, where there are more enemies, they usually give players a bit of space and even attack one at a time. In Hardcore Mode, there's the possibility that these enemies are going to try and flank the players.
