A demo for Fields of Aaru is now available on Steam. The game invites players to start their afterlife in Ancient Egypt.
Fields of Aaru has players live out a second life along the Nile. They get to build a home on the river and help the village by fixing things that have fallen into disrepair. Players get to spend their days farming, fishing, and working the riverbanks where wildlife gathers. Then once everything is ready, it's time to head out into the desert to discover ancient ruins, tombs, and hidden secrets.
To bring life back into the village, players can help the people of Aaru through quests that should fix what needs to be done. Along the way they learn various ancient crafts that include shaping stone, firing clay, and irrigating the fields.
Exploring the Desert
Once players cross the sands and step beyond the reach of the Nile, it is then that they discover hidden oases, ruins, and ancient tombs. It's important to carry water, while making sure to look for shade, when heading into the open desert. The different oases, ruins, and tombs let players uncover rare materials and lost knowledge that's been buried beneath the sand. Anything they bring back changes what they can craft and build back along the Nile.
Appeasing the Gods
Those who want to unlock new powers can make offerings to the gods. These same gods also help them earn blessings. That said, to earn the favor of the gods, they have to uncover shrines that's scattered across the world and provide offerings. Each god comes with their own set of boons. Ptah for example empowers tools and craftwork. Meanwhile, Hapi speeds up crop growth and makes harvests more bountiful. Then there's Sekhmet who's able to grant protection and combat prowess for the desert and its dangers.
