The fantasy tactical RPG Sword of Convallaria is now available for the PC. This love letter from developer XD to classic TRPGs is also being released on mobile platforms. It's a free-to-play game that offers a branching narrative that runs for more than 120 hours with players going on a quest to save the nation of Iria from destruction.
The game offers political intrigue and isometric combat encounters as players collect and train mercenaries to save Iria. It was actually first made available during the Steam Next Fest demo where it became one of the platform's most-played games during the event. Then a Closed Beta Test held back in June saw more than 10,000 players expressing their desire to join the test. In fact, studio XD revealed in a statement that one players spent 170 hours in-game during the June CBT.
Single-Player Experience
What makes Sword of Convallaria rather unique is that players have the chance to try two defined gameplay experiences. The first is "Spiral of Destinies," which is an expansive and open-ended single-player storyline. This player-driven narrative offers 10 different endings to discover. It also gives rise to what's known as the "Your Move, Your Story" concept. This where players get to learn more about the world and decide whether to become allies with the different factions or fight against them.
The Online Experience
Then there's the online mode which is all about players getting to assemble their very own guild and then join in weekly quests. In this one they have to assemble and train a group of mercenaries in order to transform them to a fighting force that can save the world.
Enjoy the OST
Enhancing the gameplay experience is that soundtrack courtesy of composer Hitoshi Sakimoto. His iconic works include those in Final Fantasy Tactics and Valkyria Chronicles. The voice cast meanwhile features the likes of Kazuhiko Inoue (Naruto, Final Fantasy XV, Fire Emblem Heroes), Aoi Yūki (Pokémon, Xenoblade Chronicles, Genshin Impact), and Takuya Eguchi (Spy x Family, Granblue Fantasy, BLUELOCK).
