Mortal Shell II Introduces Adaptive Difficulty with Latest Update

Experience a new system that makes adjustments on the strength of the enemy based on the action of the players.

A new update has been released for Mortal Shell II. One of the interesting features added is Adaptive Difficulty.

This new optional setting makes adjustments to the strength of the enemy based on the action of the players. It works in both directions, meaning the system responds to what players defeat and where they die. In addition, any adjustment also relaxes on its own over time. What this means is that the game settles back toward its standard balance once play changes.

Let's say the players are winning. Then the game pushes back. These include enemies gaining damage, health, and even break resist. Enemies also take longer to bring down and more difficult to stagger. This doesn't stop at the standard difficulty. Players who keep clearing encounters without dying see enemies scale well past the toughest the game was originally built to be. These same enemies keep climbing for as long as players keep winning.

Meanwhile, if players struggle, then the game gives ground. Enemies weaken on damage, health, and break resist. There's also a cap applied so that no single attack can take more than a set fraction of the health bar of the players. This means players can't be killed outright from full health. The reductions though don't apply during Night Mode, though can still be pushed harder but never be made easier

By default, this feature is turned off and can be activated anytime. It's worth noting that this feature is still in the experimental stage.

Other Changes

The new update also brings with it other changes to the game. For example, consecutive parries with the Infinite Seal now have a wider window into the wind-up animation. This should allow a string of incoming hits to be parried instead of only the first one. There also changes to weapons and items like the improved logic around Gloom drops on death which results in making it easier for players to retrieve their lost Gloom.
