The latest expansion Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has officially arrived. War Sails brings to the game what can be described as the full naval warfare. Players can command their own ships, lead fleets across the seas, and of course, join in large-scale naval battles.
A New Faction
The expansion introduces players to a new Viking-inspired faction based in the northern region. As the Nords, players get to travel across the jagged coasts, taiga forests, and frozen fjords. They can also visit scattered settlements that feel as if ships are rising from the sea.
Naval Battles
Meanwhile, players can also experience a naval system that's inspired by historical medieval sea battles. They'll be able to command ships which are affected by wind and waves. Players can also seize the chance to board already engaged ships. They'll also have to prepare for an incoming attack by creating a floating fortress. Then there's also the option to ram an enemy ship to sink it.
A Larger World
The addition of the expansion extends Calradia to the north which brings with it a settled island, coastal routes, and open sea. It's all about naval trade and piracy with the Nord presence feeding back into the campaign. There are new goods to trade and new ships to build. New coastal routes are available which give some towns a chance to grow rich.
However, one of the things players need to remember is that when at sea, weather plays a bigger role. Storms and current can help players speed up or grind them down. However, those who ride the win can experience faster journeys though players who poorly prepare for expeditions can face attrition.
The War Sails expansion is available for the PC via Steam along with consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. In celebration this expansion is being offered at 10% off for a limited period. Meanwhile, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is available at a 50% discount.
