Update 47 for The Elder Scrolls Online arrives on PC tomorrow, August 18. The base game update is free for all players and brings with it different new features and improvements.
One of the main features that becomes available when the update goes live is that the mounts now have the ability to swim anywhere players can. That means there's no need to dismount in watery zones like Shadowfen or Vvardenfell. Players can ride them across inconvenient rivers or even into the ocean. That's not all since this quality-of-life improvement comes with custom animations and sounds, to name a few. By the way, when they say all mounts, that means all mounts.
In a statement, Lead Animator Ed Lynch, mount swimming has long been a function that they've wanted to incorporate into the game for quite some time. With the update, Lynch went on to say that they're "excited to finally bring this improvement."
Meanwhile, Gameplay Engineer Jose Camacho revealed that when showing players a quick prototype, the team thought that this feature would be as simple as not dismounting. However, when the team started the work, Camacho said it was "the tip of the iceberg." That's because they needed to account for other functions like supporting new styles of animations, transitions, sound, VFX, and other things they didn't think about.
Replay Button
In The Elder Scrolls Online, the tremendous high-quality voice acting helps bring Tamriel to life. For players who hate to miss a word of the various conversations, they're sure to love this feature. In particular, a button is being added that replays the most recently said voiceover from the NPC players are conversing with. Senior UI Engineer Seth Leyens shared that the inspiration for this function was from a forum post he saw. He added that this function allowed the team to implement screen narration for conversations without the need to worry about the narration overlapping with the voiceover.
