The latest update for Final Fantasy XIV Online has just been released. However, Square Enix is not wasting time and revealed that the next expansion is releasing in January 2027. Dubbed as "Evercold," it continues the story of the Warrior of Light and at the same time sets in motion the start of the Godless Realms Saga story arc. Of course, there's also going to be a bunch of new content and updates.
The next expansion was revealed during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 held in Anaheim on April 24. It was done by none other than Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida.
Key Features
Not much has been revealed but from what we know so far, one feature is the introduction of the Icebound Realm of the Fourth. Here, harrowing trials and adventures await the Warrior of Light. There's also going to be two new modes to be added. The first is Reborn Mode which is planned to be based on the current combat system and job mechanics. The second is Evolved Mode which offers players a new way to play by putting a greater emphasis on job identity.
There's also going to be an overhaul on how players earn rewards and improve their characters. Speaking of characters, improvements are planned on the customization to ensure that characters stand out from the crowd. Other content in the pipeline and to be added through the expansion include:
- Two new jobs: A Tank and Physical Ranged DPS
- Level cap increased to 110
- New cities
- Distinctive new areas
- Arcane Colossi of Unknown Providence
- New allies
- New dungeons
- New raid series
- New Ultimate Raid
