Early Access Release
For the Early Access version, players get to experience Act 1 of the game. They'll get access to nine heroes who are Soren, Tizon, Tammais, Maya, Sade, Gala, Rufio, Urza and Rayder. For each here, they can use four active skills along with two passive and virtues.
Other features that are available in Early Access include the Worldmap being unlocked and cutscenes. Overall, players can expect around 15 hours of gameplay.
An Evil Lurks
Prelude Dark Pain puts players in the role of Soren, a retired warrior who's now living as a blacksmith. Following an attack on his family, he begins what would become a great revolution.
The game has players engage in turn-based tactical battle with several enemy factions. They get to maneuver their squad across a grid-based field and optimize their strategy to dominate enemies. What makes things exciting is that each battlefield is different. These include using higher ground to increase attack and all the way to navigate moving environments. Players have to consider their surroundings and use the battlefield to their advantage. In particular, each mission comes with a special challenge as they push their knowledge of the mechanics with even greater rewards if they succeed.
Assemble the Team
To defeat enemies, players need to assemble a roster of heroes and build a squad to face any scenario. Players can get up to five heroes to fill the roster. They can choose from eight class types that include, among others, Ranged DPS, Magic Support, and Assassins. Players can also equip their characters with greater equipment as they progress and upgrade it all at the base with resources obtained from missions.
However, to be effective they have to learn how the skills of the heroes interact. The full version is expected to have at least 20 playable heroes with each one having two talent branches along with a pool of 25 skills. Since each skill has its own unique characteristics, players can equip the ones that best suit their play style and create powerful synergistic combos between skills and across the squad.
