The World Expansion IV is now live inThe Riftbreaker. This free content update invites everyone to a new way to play the game with the Open Campaign mode.

The Open Campaign Mode allows players to skip the Story part of the regular Campaign. It gives them full control over how and where their mission on Galatea 37 begins. Basically it means players can start where they want.

For example, they can choose any of the biomes available in the game as their starting area and there are no DLCs required. Each biome puts them in a completely unique early-game situation. Beginners can choose the Tropical Zone since it's perfect for those who want a smooth start with few threats from the environment. Those who want to test their survival skills can select harsher regions like the Volcanic Area or Acidic Plains. The thing is, regardless of which biome players decide as their starting point, they have a chance to complete the game.

Still on Open Campaign Mode, there won't be any dialogues suggesting what to do next. In addition, there won't be any short-term objectives for players to follow. The only goal is to construct and activate the Prime Rift Station. How they complete this task is all up to the players. Resource availability, environmental threats, and expansion strategy all depend on the starting biome players choose and the decisions they make along the way.

Open Campaign Mode is available in both single-player and Co-Op.

New Biome

Speaking on biomes, a new one has been added as part of the update. The Cryo Fields is a permanently frozen region where almost everything behaves differently from what players have been used to. One of the first things that players are sure to notice is how far apart the resource deposits are. The good news is that these same resources are much larger than usual.

Players should also find natural Supercoolant deposits here. In the past, Supercoolant was something players had to manufacture themselves. In the Cryo Fields, it occurs naturally in large quantities and is ready to be extracted and transported wherever needed.

Meanwhile, the local ecosystem is very much alive in the Cryo Fields. Given the conditions, creatures that evolved in these conditions won’t behave like anything encountered in other biomes.
