In a statement, Wild Wits co-founder Corto Laly shared that in the game, players are going to be "confronted with themselves." He added that the choices are going to be difficult and there's no perfect choices, which is the "whole point of the game."
Crown Gambit is a narrative tactical game where players guide three paladins down an ominous path and through a capital that's been plagued by chaos and political unrest. They pledge allegiance to one of the pretenders to the throne and help them ascend to power. However, they have to be careful with their choices since it all comes at a price.
Carving their Own Path
Crown Gambit takes place in the kingdom of Meodred. The tenuous balance of power in the kingdom has been shaken to its core by a terrible political crisis. Making things worse is that it appears mystical forces seem to be pulling strings from the darkness. Each pretender to the throne has rallied their troops to seize the crown with the commoners fomenting a revolt and the tide continues to rise.
At the heart of this turmoil, players get to take on the role of three novice relic-wielding paladins of the crown. They'll be forced to make difficult decisions to make sure that the kingdom doesn't descend into chaos.
The Three Paladins
The three paladins that are in the mix include:
- Aliza, the blood-bending swashbuckler
- Hael, the mace-swinging cleric
- Rollo, the anchor-waving tanker.
Players get to experience the might of their blows through impactful attack animations as they smash through enemies with their sacred relic weapons. They have to stay on their guard since other powerful paladins follow their own allegiances and won't go down without a fight.
Game Demo
For those who aren't sure if the game is for them, they can try the free demo that's available. It allows players to explore the first three chapters of the game.
