ArenaNet announced that the PvP mode Push is now permanent in Guild Wars 2. This decision comes after three beta events and countless changes.
It was in September 2024 when the studio revealed in a post that they were developing a new PvP game mode. Dubbed as "Push," it's a 5v5 match where the main objective is for players to push the objective to the enemy base while making sure to keep them from pushing it to theirs. This game mode was developed to allow for a more accessible and enjoyable PvP experience but without the need to sacrifice competition. Back then, the studio also shared that a lot of players seem to find the Conquest mode rather overwhelming. As a result, Push is to be offered as a fun and casual alternative that simplifies gameplay by focusing on action and teamwork around a single objective.
As mentioned, there were beta tests conducted to test this new game mode. It was in the last beta that the development team was able to collect great feedback from the players and as a result implemented these changes:
- Adjusted Mortal Contest and global healing reductions to reduce barrier support effectiveness.
- Changed the locations of secondary objectives and updated their interaction-point art.
- The visual effects for the center objective have been updated to better fit the setting.
- Interactable teleports have been added to increase the variety of map pathing.
The studio shared that they've made some additional map adjustments that include the removal of ramps near player spawn points to avoid pregame griefing.
While Push is now live, the team assured players that they'll continue to monitor feedback and make adjustments to the game mode as needed to ensure that it remains fun and competitive.
While enjoying the new PvP mode, players can also join the Fractal Incursion and obtain amazing rewards.
