Rogue Fantasy: Ever-Shifting Worlds Offers a Mix of JRPG and Roguelike

No release date has been announced so far.

Ivalice Studio announced that it's working on an innovative title that is set to redefine the traditional JRPG experience. Rogue Fantasy: Ever-Shifting Worlds features tactical turn-based combat and combines it with the high stakes available in a roguelike game. It even has the strategic planning of an auto-battler.

Most roguelike titles offer static and linear paths. Rogue Fantasy: Ever-Shifting Worlds however has what can be described as a dynamic world-generation engine. Each "run" brings with it a completely new environment which features fresh dungeons, unique quests, and even a diverse cast of heroes for players to recruit. This means players need to adapt their strategies constantly as they navigate a world that reshapes itself at every turn.

A Fractured World

Rogue Fantasy: Ever-Shifting Worlds invites players to dive into a fractured world where each journey is a unique odyssey. In addition, it's a world where every defeat is a lesson etched in stone. Players are asked to heed upon the Crystal’s call to restore a lost balance as they assemble a legendary trio of heroes, each one equipped with unique abilities.

Auto-Battle Combat

In the game, players need to forge their way into battle where preparation and adaptability can save them from certain defeat. They'll have to build the synergies of the team while also letting their tactical skills shine in fast-paced auto-battler encounters.

The first thing they need to do is select their heroes. The goal is to assemble the perfect trio to try and tip the odds in their favor and complete the objectives. They can then combine the unique class abilities of the heroes and trigger devastating combos and turn the tide of battle. Once that's done, the auto-resolution means players can watch their strategies unfold in real-time.

In a statement, the studio revealed they wanted a game that would be able to "capture the soul" of the various JRPGs that they grew up with. However, at the same time they also wanted it to have the tension and variety present in a lot of modern roguelikes.

No release date has been revealed but Rogue Fantasy: Ever-Shifting Worlds is coming out for the PC via Steam.
