Developer FURYU announced that Varlet is now available for the PC via Steam as well as consoles PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch. This school life RPG has players encounter troubled boys and girls searching for themselves which result in them uncovering a version of themselves they never knew existed.
Varlet is now available digitally on all platforms. The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99 with the version on Steam being offered at 10% off until September. A Digital Deluxe Edition is also available at $79.99. In addition to the base game, the Digital Deluxe Edition also comes with the 80-page digital artbook and digital album that offers 53 individual tracks. It also has the "Monark & The Caligula Effect 2 School Uniform" DLC.
Kousei Academy
The game takes players to the halls of Kousei Academy. This is the first school to implement the cross-reality and virtual reality network that's known as "Johari." It's being used for everything from finding basic information and making purchases to serving as a social networking and messaging app. This particular app has resulted in the increase in users' desire for approval and attention amongst peers.
Urban Legend
Later on, urban legend starts circulating about users who seem to disappear into otherworldly "Glitches" if those desires grow too strong. Making things worse is that the monsters inhabiting said "Glitches" are said to replace users in the real world leaving everyone none the wiser.
The protagonist learns that the urban legend is in fact very real. In addition, some students seem to have already been replaced by monsters. Players take on the role of someone who is a member of the Student Support Services (SSS), a guild that's dedicated to solving the academy’s troubles. They'll have to guide their friends, strengthen bonds, and fight to protect the school from impending doom. The thing is, navigating these relationships comes with its own challenges since getting too close to multiple people may lead to unexpected consequences.
Triad Stats System
At the heart of the gameplay experience in Varlet is the dynamic Triad Stats system. It is one that shapes character progression based on player choices. There are six distinct attributes divided between Light and Dark Triad traits. Light Triad stats puts focus on morality, sympathy, and altruism. Meanwhile, Dark Triad stats is all about Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism.
Overall, Varlet is a school-life RPG about self-discovery, experienced through meeting others who struggle with the question of who they truly are, and grow through that very struggle.
