Indie developer JL Studio is releasing a new game titled as Slots & Sword & Magic. This fast-paced roguelike has players use a slot machine as their main combat system.
In most traditional games in the genre, a slot machine is something that's a source of randomness. However, that's not the case for Slots & Sword & Magic. Instead, it's a tool players can use to build powerful strategies and unexpected synergies. They combine items, trigger chain reactions, and even release Crazy Combos that turn every battle into a chaotic mix of effects and interactions.
How it works is that players spin the slots and in return they obtain actions and items. Once that's done, everything triggers automatically. After that the enemy takes a turn. Repeat until the fight ends.
Crazy Combo System
There's also that crazy combo system that has players build insane synergies and trigger chain reactions. Reactions include effects that amplify each other and items duplicate and mutate. Since one lucky spin can flip the entire run there's the possibility where the combos eventually scale into absurdity. There are even times when the game spirals completely out of control.
Special Items
It's worth noting that in Slots & Sword & Magic, there are items that break the rules. These include items that can:
- copy adjacent symbols
- replace themselves
- transform into new effects
- trigger a "System Glitch"
System Requirements
For Slots & Sword & Magic, the minimum system requirements are:
- OS: Windows 7+
- Processor: Intel i5+
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: 1Gb GLSL Shader Support
- Storage: 1 GB available space
Meanwhile, the recommended specifications are:
- OS: Windows 7+
- Processor: Intel i7+
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: 2Gb GLSL Shader Support
- Storage: 1 GB available space
The studio shared that when they were creating the game, they wanted players to have the feeling of breaking the game. It's a game where players discover, either intentionally or by accident, extremely powerful combinations. The studio said in a statement that they eventually reached a point where they stopped trying to find a way to balance the game and instead looked into the idea of whether “players could break it instead.”
No release date has been released but those interested can wishlist Slots & Sword & Magic on Steam.
