The Free Lanes update for Starfield is set to give players the ability to freely fly between planets in a star system. They'll be able to take off in any direction and let the Frontier guide them across the massive expanse of space.
There are two ways which are Free Lanes and Cruise Mode. Cruise Mode in particular allow players to truly experience the fantasy of life on their ship. Everything they can do, whether in orbit or docked, can be performed in Cruise Mode. They can chat with companions and crew, decorate the ship, or even hit up the workbenches.
New Encounters
To give players more reason to go out and explore space, the update adds new space encounters. In addition, their frequency has also increased. Some of the new encounters pull players out of Cruise Mode automatically and they'll need to deal with them before they can move on.
X-Tech
One exciting addition is the X-Tech. This new resource allows players to customize all of their weapons, gear, and even ships even further. It's sure to be exciting for players who really want that super deep customization in their gear. Players can come across X-Tech through combat and exploration.
