Developer studio The Free Company announced that its upcoming title STARIUM is set to be released on early access in the second quarter of 2025. The game offers an open world for everyone to explore and features an interesting combination of RPG and bullet hell mechanics.
The game is set in the galaxy of Talara. It's a realm that has endless possibilities along with dire consequences. This is a place where a rare fuel known as "Starium" is obtained. The resource is actually extracted from dying stars, which makes it the driving force not only of progress but also that of destruction. Players take on the role of someone who's just arrived to this volatile region. It is here that they'll uncover a world of peril, chances, and moral dilemmas.
Finding Your Path
Players are invited to forge their own path in a morally complex universe where each and every choice matters. Their actions form a ripple across the galaxy and shape the fate of Talara. They get to experience a pixel art world and learn more about the planet Rhalara. They'll also meet a cast of compelling characters, from freedom fighters, corporate overlords, rogue adventurers, and even enigmatic aliens. Players have to learn who to trust, who it is they have to betray, and who to stand by in the fight for Talara’s future.
Survive the Fight
In addition to exploring, players also need to fight various enemies. No to worry though since there’s a wide range of unique weapons to choose from. There are weapons that have homing bullets while there are also those capable of freezing enemies.
Inspired from Other Titles
For combat, the studio revealed in a statement that the game gets inspiration from Nuclear Throne. It one which puts emphasis on chaotic gunplay along with skillful dodging and positioning. This is then combined with the progression system that’s inspired by Hades.
Meanwhile, the dialogue mechanics are inspired from titles like Undertale and Disco Elysium. It is where players are encouraged to explore unique conversational paths that are based on character traits. It’s one which offers meaningful and player-driven outcomes as well as enhanced replayability.
