Warhorse Studios announced that it is helping with the reconstruction of Pirkštejn Castle. For each copy of Kingdom Come: Deliverance sold, $1 is to be donated towards preserving the real-world castle. This fundraising initiative is part of the Steam Medieval Fest, which runs from April 20 to April 26.

Pirkštejn Castle is perched above the Sázava River and has served as a silent witness to centuries of Czech history. It was built sometime in 1350 by Jan of Lipá. It once guarded vital trade and pilgrimage routes but over time lost its strategic role. The castle passed through noble families and gradually fell into disrepair. Right now, reconstruction work has started and is being led by the local parish in Rataje nad Sázavou.

Part of the Game

While restoring a historical landmark is indeed important, Pirkštejn Castle is more than that especially for fans of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It's actually part of the game. Players have long experienced the castle firsthand during key story moments. They've defended and uncovered its secrets alongside characters like Henry of Skalitz and Hans Capon. Over time, Pirkštejn even became Henry’s home.

More than a Fundraiser

In a post, the studio revealed that the initiative it launched is actually "more than a fundraiser." It's also the continuation of what can be described as a long-standing relationship. When Kingdom Come: Deliverance was first developed, the studio looked into local partners to provide that much-needed invaluable access and historical insight. One of these was the Sázava Monastery. Because of that, the area eventually became a destination for fans from around the world.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is set in Bohemia, a region rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has resulted in the kingdom being plunged into dark times. War, corruption, and discord are now tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart.

Wenceslas, one of Charles' sons, has inherited the crown. However unlike his father, Wenceslas is not only naive but also self-indulgent and unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, has sensed weakness. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. Now with no king on the throne, Sigismund is free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

Players take on the role of Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Their peaceful life has been shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns their village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, they're one of the few survivors of this massacre. Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a story-driven open-world RPG that immerses everyone in an epic adventure in the Holy Roman Empire. The game is currently being offered on Steam at an 80% discount for a limited period. Get it now.
