Super8bitRafa announced that they're starting a Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming title Fablelight. The campaign officially launches on September 29.
In a post, the studio shared that for the past years they've been building Fablelight into a game that they've always wanted to make. In particular, it's a colorful single-player fighting game RPG that's inspired by fighting games, Saturday morning cartoons, and the kind of weird fantasy adventures where players slowly assemble a party of lovable idiots.
That said, the studio went on to say that the game had actually grown considerably when they first started working on it. What started as a small fighting game experiment eventually became into what is now a single-player RPG built around fighting game combat. With the Kickstarter campaign, the studio hopes to get the chance to expand the game while at the same time make sure it remains "weird, personal, and independent." Through the campaign, the studio hopes to get funds for:
- More characters and animation.
- New stages and environments.
- Additional story content.
- Music, sound and voice work.
- Boss fights and enemies.
- Polishing the RPG and progression systems.

Fablelight is a single-player fighting game RPG that's inspired by classic arcade fighters and ’90s cartoons. Players get to build a party of weirdos, learn their fighting styles, unlock new abilities, and battle their way through a colorful fantasy adventure where every encounter plays out like a fighting game.
Basically, the game answers the question of what happens when a traditional JRPG with a battle system plays like a fighting game. As a result, Fablelight features tight and traditional fighting game mechanics and combines it with a fully playable story campaign focusing on single-player content.
The game has players take on the role of Rojas, a glass cannon fighter who wields a magical sword with cosmic power. They get to fight across a handcrafted world and they try to uncover a twisted fairytale filled with secrets, allies, and branching paths. Players can learn mid-range zoning from Granny Boom, the crazed pyromaniac and demolition expert, or simply button mash the unga bunga barbarian Krog. There's pretty much a character for every playstyle.
