Studio Offers a Peek at Detective System of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy

Become an acolyte of the Inquisition in this grim dark, party-based, and story-driven cRPG.

Owlcat Games offers a detailed look at the detective system of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. It's a way for players to investigate crimes and heresy. Considering how challenging the job is, those who choose it need not only a very specific skillset but also an iron stomach.

Before reading on, watch the video on the Detective System overview here.

Start with a Question

Each case in the game starts with a question. However, the acolytes of the inquisition would soon realize that finding the answer is never simple or even straightforward. There may be even cases that the answer may not be something that one expects. To slowly build an overview on what could have happened, players need to find physical clues as well as interrogate suspects and witnesses. They also have to follow trails with the help of the servo-ossarium.

The Companions

Players should be happy to know that companions contribute what they can. Epione for example comes with medical knowledge while Haymar seems to know everything about survival. There's also Laarthyr who can give useful insights into xenos behavior. These are just some of the companions players can expect.

That said, players need to weigh the evidence, establish what they think happened, and then decide the best course of action. It's not going to be that simply. Should they accuse the most likely suspect or possibly place blame on the suspect whose downfall would be most useful for their overall goals. Ultimately in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, innocence means nothing.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy invites players to take on the role of an Inquisitor. They start as an acolyte of the Inquisition where they investigate heresy, command a diverse warband, and eventually shape the fate of the Calixis Sector. The game offers a story-rich experience where each decision has weight, justice being non-existent, and the line between salvation and damnation is razor-thin.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is releasing soon for the PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store. It's also going to be available on consoles via PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The studio has launched Wishlist Goals, a community-driven campaign where every milestone reached unlocks unique rewards for all players.
