Studio Releases First Trailer for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE

KOEI TECMO released the first trailer for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE. This Japanese-style horror adventure game follows twin sisters who have been lost in an abandoned village haunted by evil spirits. The game is scheduled for release in early 2026 and to be available for the PC via Steam along with consoles PlayStation 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE is a full remake of the second game in the horror series first released back in 2003 for the PlayStation 2. This version features a complete overhaul of the original game that includes improvements to the audio and graphics as well as enhancements to core gameplay systems and controls.

The key mechanism in the series, which is the Camera Obscura, offers fans a richer and more captivating gameplay experience not only during exploration but also combat. There’s also a new mechanic known as “Holding Hands with Mayu.” This one brings a heartfelt touch to the game as players experience the deep bond between the sisters like never before.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they find themselves lost in a village that has vanished from the map. The twins fight to unravel the mysteries of the supernatural phenomena surrounding them in a village of never-ending night. They're also being hunted by vengeful spirits as they attempt to escape a mysterious ritual.

Separated from her sister, Mio attempts to find Mayu and escape. She's armed only with the Camera Obscura, a device that captures and seals away the impossible. Unknown to her, Mio’s actions involuntarily reproduce the past and lead her to the deepest reaches of the village. There she uncovers the truth behind the "forbidden ritual that must never be witnessed."

The game features breath-taking horror effects and atmosphere alongside intense battles. Players get to feel the unease and fear of exploring the abandoned buildings shrouded in darkness as the story of a sister’s bond unfolds and guided by a crimson butterfly.
