Pollard Studio released a new short documentary for KARMA: The Dark World. It puts the spotlight on the sound and score of the game as it explores the music and audio technology. The feature also highlights just how the sound and silence is able to bolster the game's emotional weight and unsettling atmosphere.

The release of this new feature happens at the same time as the Steam Daily Deal where KARMA: The Dark World is being offered at a 45% discount for a limited period. This should allow for a wider audience the experience just how sound plays an important role in the game.

The Behind the Scenes video offers a detailed look at how the music and audio for KARMA: The Dark World has been shaped under the direction of Geng Li, who handled both the original score and the game’s sound design. The production itself spanned multiple locations around the world. The full orchestra was recorded in Hungary with select instruments like drums captured in Japan. Then the final mixing and finishing was completed in the United States.

Li’s work in particular was designed to not only support but at the same time play a key role in the game’s psychological tension and fragmented realities. The score also incorporates restrained and character-focused motifs alongside fuller and emotionally charged cues. This combination reinforces the game’s narrative atmosphere and enhances the emotional stakes of each encounter.

What the video here.

KARMA: The Dark World is a first-person cinematic psychological thriller that's set in 1984 in East Germany. In this alternate timeline, a group known as the Leviathan Corporation rules with an iron fist. They control the citizens through mass surveillance, social class rules, and mind altering drugs. Then there's also the promise that the gates to Utopia will open to those who serve.

Players take on the role of Daniel McGovern. He’s a Roam Agent working for Leviathan’s Thought Bureau. With the use of advanced technology, he dives into the minds of the accused as he investigates crime scenes, interviews suspects, and reports findings back to Leviathan.
