Riyo Games released a new video for Threads of Time. This one puts the focus on the Needle, the timeship responsible for bringing players to the different eras.
The video was shown on Day of the Devs during the Summer Games Fest 2026. Threads of Time is being developed by Canadian based indie game studio Riyo Games. In that same video, the studio founders shared that this game is a result of a promise they made while in high school. In particular, the two agreed to one day make a game that would serve as a love letter to the JRPGs that they grew up on. These included games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, and Xenogears.
Going back to the Needle, players use this to travel across different eras and gather party members from across history. After that, they go on a quest to bring back the fallen Time Knights.
Adventure Across Time
With the Needle, players can travel to an age where dinosaurs roam and all the way to the far-flung future. There may even be alternate realms in between. Across the fantastic and distinctive time periods, they get to discover the threads that bind the ages. Players also uncover an epic tale of interwoven fates and secrets that shaped civilizations. Then there's the threads of a sinister plot that traverses the tapestry of time.
When facing enemies, players can weave together powerful attacks in visually dynamic and strategic turn-based battles. They can bend time to their will to unravel the defense of enemies and release the full potential of their party’s through devastating team combos.
Speaking of a party, players need to assemble a team of charismatic and unique characters who are recruited from different eras. They have to restore the ancient Order of the Time Knights and unite heroes from across epochs to defend the timeline from impending chaos and corruption.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Threads of Time offers lovingly hand-crafted 2D characters and mixes it with the timeless charm of pixel art.
No release date has been announced for the game. Threads of Time is planned to be released for the PC via Steam and the Xbox Series X/S.
