One More Level released a new trailer for Valor Mortis. It offers a peek into what players can expect from the game like the various environments they can explore. The same trailer also revealed the release date which is in Fall 2026.

As mentioned, the trailer shows a lot of the new environments, most of which has the beautiful architecture of the early 1800s. There players get to encounter soldiers along with the townspeople corrupted by nephtoglobin. The same trailer also offers a look into the first-person parkour action. In particular, the main character William is able to do various actions as a result of ties to the nephtoglobin. These include having the ability to grapple through the air, wall run across cliffs, and manipulate terrain to get to new vantage points for combat.

But wait, there's more! The trailer also reveals a new weapon with the Rapier. At first glance, it may not seem that different from a typical sabre. However, it plays quite differently since the Rapier specializes in parrying and targeting enemy weakpoints to allow for a high risk and high reward play style. In a post, the studio revealed that during the playtest, weakpoints could only be pierced by a pistol bullet. With the rapier, players can do the same with a melee weapon.

An Ambitious Project

Valor Mortis was developed using Unreal Engine 5 and in a statement, the studio said that it is their "most ambitious project" to date. It channels the studio's mastery of first-person perspective gameplay combined with Soulslike mechanics and a haunting aesthetic.

Players take on the role of William, a resurrected soldier of the Grande Armée who's guided by Napoleon's disembodied voice. However, the Europe that they awaken to is not the same one that they've sacrificed for. A mysterious plague is now sweeping the continent and William has been reborn with its corrupting power pulsing through their veins.

The combat in the game has been designed to feel threatening and immersive as it draws on the studio's expertise in first-person perspective. Each death is a stepping stone to mastery as players perfect their ability to parry blows, dash out of harm’s way, and deliver devastating, visceral finishers.
