Studio Reveals Details of Ships in Carbon

More information about game features to be shared at a later date.

Hardwired Studios revealed an interesting feature for its upcoming title Carbon. It seems that for this science fiction top-down action RPG, players can get access to ships.

In the game, the ship is more than being a simple hub between missions. It also serves as the personal hideout of the players. This mobile base allows players to travel across dangerous zones, hostile environments, and even high-risk activities. After all, this is a game where preparation can mean the difference between survival and failure.

Before stepping into combat, players can adjust their loadout, manage onboard systems, and customize their ship with modules. These modules can significantly influence gameplay and the way players approach encounters.

There's no question that this new detail should make waiting for the game even more exciting. In a statement, the studio revealed that they'll be sharing "more data" soon.

Carbon puts players in the role of a nameless convict who has been drafted into forced service for a megacorporation’s private army. Before they're deployed, their body is rebuilt. It's either rewritten at the DNA level or being reinforced with black market cybernetic implants. Regardless, it means they're no longer fully human. They're then dropped onto the ruined surface of the Earth and sent into combat zones crawling with rogue AI, hostile factions, and warped remnants of failed experiments.

The game is set at a time when the Earth has been abandoned. The planet became a hostile place as a result of an accident that occurred during a terraforming research project. Continents have been overwhelmed with a mutation of nature with the surface of the planet experiencing a new plague. Thousands of vast cities, which have been turned into post-apocalyptic settlements, now serve as a new home to the majority of mankind.

One of the key features of the game is players being able to choose between Bio (Geneware/Chemware) or Tech (Cyberware/Nanoware). The choices serve as the basis for the asymmetric gameplay. The two paths offer different play styles and affect the overall game experience.

Players can also choose their body type, augmentation, and progress, in one of 18 unique core specializations. Meanwhile, the core specializations provide unique passive skill trees that allow players to shape the play style to their needs. Players can choose from more than 100 skills and socket them into the talent tree to empower or transform them entirely with new skill trees.
