It was back in December 2022 when Starcom: Unknown Space was released in Early Access on Steam. Since then, the game has managed to have at least 25,000 players. However, the biggest news is that the full release of this open-world space ARPG is finally here.
That's right! Version 1.0 is here and right now being offered at 20% discount on Steam until September 17.
Early Access Days
Anyway, developer Wx3 Labs revealed in a statement that during the game's early access phase, they used an in-game feedback system which allowed the studio to get instant feedback and suggestions from the players. Feedback wasn’t limited to in-context comments but also suggestions on the direction of the game along with improvements on various facets of the game like, among others, features, story, and mission areas. Overall, the studio shared that around 4,000 players submitted comments or suggestions.
In response to the feedback and suggestions, the programmer and designer of the game Kevin Lin made sure to post weekly updates to make sure that players know what changes are made and what plans are in place. This tight development loop that the studio has with players is likely the reason why the game has a 92% positive reviews on Steam.
Talking more about the feedback, the studio shared that some of the things the players loved about the game include:
- A large, fully open-world, and bespoke universe.
- The innovative ship-building system.
- A large tech tree with various weapons and special abilities to unlock.
- Fast-paced combat where enemies can be shredded like pinatas to obtain loot.
- Beautifully rendered space with more than 200 custom “anomalies” for players to investigate.
- An intriguing and deep storyline with alliances, treachery, and a galaxy-spanning mystery to unravel.
Finally, what players also loved about the game was its sense of exploration and discovery. It’s that feeling of what the next star system is going to reveal.
Starcom: Unknown Space offers an action-adventure RPG which features space exploration, ship building and fast-paced tactical combat. The game invites players to a vast open-world universe that’s filled with alien factions fighting for power and strange worlds to explore. There are also mysteries for players to investigate and of course, an enemy threatening the galaxy with an ancient power.
