Ackk Studios announced that the latest update for YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG is now live. In addition, this update is free and available on all platforms.
YIIK I.V (version 1.5) introduces interesting new content to the game. It follows the story of a recent college grad named Alex. After a vision reveals to him a woman who disappears in the grip of an iron maiden, he descends into what becomes an obsession to find the truth.
This new update brings Alex and his world to uncharted dimensions. There are three new party members to choose along with a new combat system to experience. There are also new and improved cutscenes for everyone to enjoy. Other new content include the addition of 10 new areas, at least 150 new tracks, reimagined dungeon layouts, revamped Monster Dens, and a new leveling system.
As Alex investigates the saturated and complex dimensions with his new allies, he'll find inscrutable puzzles, peculiar enemies, and even lethal traps. They'll have to fight against unnatural beings in turn-based combat and to win they'll need to synergize their unique passive and active abilities and HP defenses.
In a statement, co-founder and co-director of Ackk Studios Andrew Allanson shared in a statement that across the years of development, the studio never stopped working to reach its vision of what the story and its world could be. He added that they’ve managed to attain that vision and thanked the community “for coming along for the ride.”
Meet Alex
The game tells the story of an unusual error which occurs on April 4. It’s a day that echoes the enigmatic code 404. In a desperate act of innocence, a child makes a decision to remove her name for an invitation to a birthday party. Her hope is tethered to the rather faint possibility of finding her brother.
At the same time, the recent college graduate Alex returns home and finds his reality unspooling much like a threadbare tapestry. Guided by a cat which seems to have the ability to slip through the very fabric of his mind, Alex decides to descend into the depths of his consciousness where he witnesses the impossible, which is a woman who’s locked away in an iron maiden and then vanishing into thin air. This vision ignites an undying obsession and threatens to unravel the boundaries of his world.
YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG is available for the PC via Steam and GOG. It's also out for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch.
