The Isles of Abyss officially opens up in Once Human on October 22. This massive Ocean Expansion is available for free and to be released simultaneously across PC, consoles, and mobile.
The new update expands the Stardust polluted world into a vast and uncanny ocean. As part of the update, there are new survival mechanics for players to experience along with new mobile naval fortresses and five distinctive sea regions.
The Sunken Lord
At the heart of Isles of Abyss lies a disturbing secret. The sea isn't simply an environment but is actually an ancient and awakening entity known as "The Sunken Lord." Under the shrouded waters and distant lighthouses, there's something vast and hostile watches every surge of the tide. It's transforming the ocean itself into a living entity that hungers for those who dare to cross it.
Then there's Malla, an enigmatic navigator who is said to have "drowned a thousand times." Mall is warning players of six critical rules from her logbook. These same rules expose the ocean's lethal traps that include the likes of predatory lighthouses and all the way to disguised and living islands.
Freedom of Shipbuilding
One of the new experiences that the update offers is that players now have the unprecedented freedom of shipbuilding. That means players can craft, customize, and upgrade their vessels from agile skiffs to massive Mobile Sea Fortresses. They can also transform their ship to become a fully functional base, workshop, and heavy artillery platform. It's up to players how they design their vessels directly dictate their tactical approach to oceanic hazards, encouraging creative problem-solving and adding immense gameplay depth.
Dual Survival Loop
Survival spans three seamlessly connected layers which are navigating treacherous sea surfaces, exploring mysterious islands, and diving deep underwater for buried treasures and aquatic resources. Each layer feeds directly back into core player progression to create that rich and mutually sustaining survival economy between land and ocean.
