The newest expansion for Destiny 2 is finally live. Renegades is the second expansion in the Year of Prophecy and offers an all-new experience that's inspired by Star Wars.
The story begins with the Guardians starting their journey as part of a crew of underdogs rising to challenge the Barant Imperium. Players join Drifter and forge alliances with new and returning characters as they build influence and power in the criminal underworld.
Lawless Frontier
The expansion introduces what's called the Lawless Frontier. This is a new activity that's been designed for replayability and scalable challenge. Guardians take on a range of high-risk and high-reward jobs that include Smuggling, Bounty Hunts, and Sabotage. All of these stretch across six new maps on Venus, Europa, and Mars, all inspired by iconic Star Wars locations.
Syndicate Factions
With the addition of the new Notoriety system, players build reputation with three Syndicate factions:
- The Pikers: An anarchist and atheist biker gang of Eliksni seeking to build a society free from traditional ranks and hierarchy.
- Tharsis Reformation: A breakaway sect of sentient Vex, driven by a desire to experience personal identity outside the Vex collective.
- Totality Division: A rogue branch of the Barant Imperium Cabal, operating as a Syndicate on Mars and ruled by psions.
Lawless Frontier also introduces Invasion, an opt-in feature that allows other Guardians to enter the battlefield to disrupt progress in exchange for unique rewards.
New Weapons and Gear
The Renegades expansion also introduces new weapons and gear. One of these is the Praxic Blade, which is a kinetic Exotic Sword that's inspired by lightsabers and offers multiple customization paths that meaningfully impact gameplay. Another new weapon are the Blasters, it features a heat-based firing and reload system that replaces traditional magazines.
There are also new Exotics like the Solar Crossbow Heirloom and the Strand Machine Gun Service of Luzaku. New Exotic armor are also available for each class that include the Deimosuffusion Warlock Helmet, Fortune’s Favor Hunter Legs, and the Praxic Vestment Titan Chest.
Destiny 2 invites players to explore the mysteries of the solar system and experience responsive first-person shooter combat. They get to unlock powerful elemental abilities and collect unique gear to customize their Guardian's look and playstyle. Features of the game include a cinematic story, challenging co-op missions, and different PvP modes alone or with friends. Destiny 2 is available for the PC via Steam.
