Fair Games announced that a very special update is releasing in Necesse this July 30. Titled as "Rust & Romance," it's expected to be the biggest update for the game coming out this year.
There's a reason why the update is titled that way. For the Rust part, it refers to the new and challenging Scrapyard incursion in the game. In fact, the studio shared in a statement that their very own designer went all out for months. New mechanics, enemies, and even equipment were added for everyone to enjoy. That's not all since there's even a new and interesting boss at the end.
Meanwhile, the Romance part is all about the relationships of the settlers. The already cozy vibe in the settlement is made even better. That's because the settlers get to enjoy recreation that includes dancing to the music player or even going for a jog. For players who realize that they "fancy" someone, they can offer a flower which then results in a series of unique quests. Doing it properly can end in someone falling in love with the players.
In addition to what's already mentioned, there are also now bigger biomes along with new music and sound. The new update also introduces a rework on both tutorial and onboarding.
On the same day as the Rust & Romance update for Necesse release, there’s also going to be a Free Weekend.
Necesse was officially released back in October 2025 and made available on Steam. The game has players build, quest, and conquer across an infinite procedurally generated world. Players can grow their settlement and lead expeditions against pirate kings, dragons, and fallen wizards alike. Whether playing alone or with a few friends, the world of Necesse and its threats adapt to provide a meaningful challenge. Everyone has the chance to explore freely or take on specific quests as they face off against unique monsters spread across a variety of biomes.
Necesse has players play how they want. They can customize difficulty and multiple gameplay rules to fit their preferences. For example, for those who don’t like raiders showing up at their settlement, they can turn them off. It's also possible to fine-tune gameplay rules like the length of the day/night cycle or the difficulty of boss battles. Overall, each session in the game is an opportunity to weave an epic tale unlike any that came before it.
